LOOKING FOR WAYS TO STORE ENERGY EFFICIENTLY

Energis Melbourne

Our world has come to a place where it depends totally on energy. It is utilized for just about everything we do, from operating our modern day conveniences to heating our dwellings and providing power to anything we have. Back before we had electricity, the lighting we got was created fire burning lamps and our heat came from a wood furnace. Ultimately, whole towns and cities could be lit up with no effort on our part.

When electrical energy started to spread, many individuals were skeptical. If you take a look at today, we use so much electric power, we are running out of the fuel to help create it. We are slowing using up many of the non-renewable resources to create electricity so we must find alternatives. Power from the sun appears to be the best of the renewable energy sources and the more that is learned about it, more effective ways are being found for keeping the energy. If conservative techniques are used for saving energy, then storing solar energy could mean a continuous usage of water along with other necessities.

A process known as thermal mass systems is where solar energy is saved in other natural resources. Alternative sources, such as dirt and water, in conjunction with man made resources like concrete, can be used to store the energy, even if only for a short time. At nighttime, long after the sun has set, your residence and things, such as water, can be heated by thermal mass. These are good short-term alternatives, but at this point there are no long-term storage capabilities for solar power. Yet another way to keeping heat from solar power is using thermo-chemical phase. Some these storage types include paraffin wax and Eutectic Salts.

When you put paraffin wax inside a storage tank, the wax continues to be a solid while it is cold, but as soon as it is heated, it becomes a liquid which will maintain its heat for a long period. As it cools down, the paraffin wax gets hard, but it still continues to store in the heat. If you want to use something affordable and still hold heat for extended periods is Eutectic Salts. Solar power can be stored using steam that was produced by Molten Salts. The molten salts are heated up in the storage tank. The energy that is generated could be kept in rechargeable batteries which can be used for later. Lead acid battery is the most frequent battery used for this purpose.

While there are several ways to save natural energy, there is still a need to have them be a little more efficient. Eventually, we will see ways to get a limitless supply of natural heat when storage methods are improved upon.
